Filipinos can now enter Taiwan visa free (Updated June 28, 2018)

Good news for Philippine Passport holders who wish to spend time in Taiwan this summer.

(Update as of June 28, 2018) – The visa-free access to Taiwan is extended until next year, July 31, 2019.

(Update as of September 28, 2017) – The visa-free might take effect this coming October or November. This is according to Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Hsu Kong-yung. Taiwan Premier Lai Ching-te has approved the plan to give visa-free status to citizens of the Philippines on October this year, according to a report from state-owned Central News Agency.

The Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently announced to move the visa free implementation to Filipinos September this year, however, there are currently no updates on the said visa policy. We will immediately update this page once the Ministry will give its decision.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taiwan grant visa-free entry to Filipinos who wish to travel to Taiwan for business/tourism purposes. This 30-day visa-free access to Philippine Passport holders will start on June 1, 2017.

Statistics show a significant growth of tourist arrival coming from Southeast Asian countries and implementing new visa policy for Filipinos will encourage more tourists to visit the country.

Taiwan’s government is currently implementing a “New Southbound Policy” that aims to forge closer trade and economic ties with countries in South and Southeast Asia.

October last year, Taiwan relaxes its visa policy towards Filipinos by granting visa-free access to PH passport holders who have a valid visa from OECD countries and those who have never worked in Taiwan as a blue collar worker.

The Philippines will join Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand in ASEAN to enjoy visa-free entry to Taiwan.

ASEAN passport holders from Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam who hold permanent resident certificates issued by Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Schengen Agreement signatories, the United Kingdom, or the United States, or hold a visa or a resident card from one of these countries that is either valid or expired within 10 years from the date of expected arrival in Taiwan, are eligible to use the online application for Taiwan travel authorization certificate.

MOFA also instructed its offices in Southeast Asian countries to take measures to issue multiple-entry visas with a validity of at least two years to middle-class citizens of their host countries.

Taiwan and the Philippines are currently served by Philippine Airlines, China Airlines, EVA Air, Cebu Pacific and Vanilla Air. Flights between the two capitals, Manila and Taipei can go as low as PHP 800.00.

EVA offers great deals from the Philippines to North American destinations. Travelers may now option to visit Taipei visa free when on transit.
